Arcade Fire - Afterlife
Toronto born Emily Kai Bock majored in painting and sculpture at Emily Carr University in Vancouver, graduating with a BFA. She later moved to Montreal where she co-curated a loft/venue, which functioned as a hub for local artists and musicians. There, she started to work on a series of short documentaries about the underground music scene as well as collaborating on performances and music videos with her local musician friends.
After her music video for Grimes ‘Oblivion’ became an online sensation, Emily was recognized as a true contender in music videos with a unique vision. Since signing internationally, Emily has worked with artists such as Grizzly Bear and Sebastian Schuller also moving into the commercial world with a beautiful piece for Coca-Cola and Mother London.
Today Emily’s directing spans music video, documentary, short film and advertising. Most recently she has directed a commercial for Diesel entitled “Are you Alive” with French agency Fred and Farid. Her films are informed by her fine art background and apply creative narrative to her fictional and found subject matter.
