new—land refreshes its Aaton Penelope merch collection with celebrated artist and friend, Allan Gandhi.
The Brazilian artist breathes new life into the 35mm Aaton Penelope camera, in a new—land collaboration where analogue finds an unsuspecting home in the unconventional portraits of Allan Gandhi. A modern ode to celluloid.

Radiant with personality and peculiarity, Allan Gandhi's artwork reflects wild narratives and unconventional portraits. He creates figures whose visual language oscillates between playfulness and thoughtfulness.
His imagery is tangible and recognisably human with distinct bodily shapes, intimate close-ups, and everyday actions; kissing, smoking, contemplating. At other times, the arrangement of his characters are distinctly and hauntingly ambiguous. An ongoing tension permeates his art, breaking down the relationship between the subject and the viewer.
Colourful and eccentric, his work was recently featured in an exhibition at Luisa Strina Gallery in São Paulo.
Meeting in Brazil earlier this year, Gandhi and new—land's Sara Samsøe, spent countless hours in the studio, drawing, painting, designing. And the portrait subject? The Aaton Penelope camera.
new—land's first ever film was shot with an Aaton camera, a celluloid which is special to so many filmmakers. From vastly contrasting stylistic worlds, the collaboration is a retelling of that story, bringing with it a dysfunctional uniqueness which transports the Aaton camera to 2025. Take a look at the early designs below.

Allan is a close friend and artist I admire so launching this collaboration with him was on my bucket list for a while. With it we wanted to explore what it means to be a filmmaker - creating items with function and style. As well as paying homage to our beloved celluloid, taking a bit of that energy of the unknown and creating designs which feel unexpected and in places, obscure.
Unconventional, vibrant and ambiguous, the designs capture the duality of the Aaton camera and cinematographer with refreshing individuality and playfulness.
The new collection is also composed of a limited edition Treasure Box, hand-crafted by Sara, new—land's in house ceramicist and founder of Atelier 1991.
The collection goes live soon, but here's a peak below at what's to come.
